Peak Climbing

Himalayan Climbing
Let MHE help you reach the summit

The Founding Director of MHE, Col. N. Kumar (Bull), is a legend in Indian mountaineering and India's most decorated climber. Bull has led numerous Himalayan Expeditions which include Mt. Everest (Deputy Leader), Kanchenjunga, Trisul, Saltoro Kangri, Sia Kangri, Chomolhari (Bhutan) amongst many others. He has also held prestigious positions as Principal of the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling and the Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering, Kashmir.

We continue his tradition of adventure by offering the best Himalayan Climbing trips in the Himalaya. From trekking peaks in India and Nepal to Himalayan giants, we can help you reach the summit in safety and comfort. Whether you want a full fledged crew, or base camp support for an alpine style climb, contact us with your requirements. We'll even sort out the bureaucratic red tape before you arrive, making sure you only have to concentrate on the climb. Our affiliation with the IMF (Indian Mountaineering Federation) and the ATOAI (Adventure Tour Operators Association of India) - our CEO Akshay Kumar is the current President of ATOAI - is your guarantee of experienced, quality staff and our total commitment to your safety and success.

what is a trekking peak?

Trekking peaks, in general, do not require previous roped climbing experience. They may require the use of crampons and ice axes.

In India, a trekking peak does not need to be booked through the IMF, and although no royalties are paid permissions are still required. Usually this is merely a paperwork formality. However, it takes some time and pre planning.

In Nepal, a trekking peak is any peak under 7,000 metres which is considered climbable by any person with moderate mountaineering experience and skills. They may require the use of ice axes and crampons, and a climbing permit (non refundable fee) must be obtained from the NMA.

Many people believe that because they are attempting a trekking peak they don't need a guide or a porter. It is never a good idea to go into the mountains on your own, and if you have established a base camp you will not want to leave it unattended. We always recommend you take at least a couple of porters along to ease the burden and guard your gear at base camp.

Trekking peaks are often nicknamed "less bureaucracy" peaks.

what is an expedition peak?

Expedition peaks require previous high altitude mountaineering experience. They are generally, but not always, over 7,000 metres. They also generate a lot of paperwork, with government permissions and fees which are generally based on the size of the climbing party, the peak's height and popularity. The more popular mountains may occasionally have long waiting lists, so you need to decide well in advance if you want to tackle an expedition peak.
