The Perfect Trek For the Family! Best Time To Go: October - February

For kids 7 years and above. Having said that, we had a 5-year old who's joined on this trek and didn't ask to be carried even once!

This trek is MHE's very own find and we're not keen to share too many details - for fear that others may jump onto the bandwagon! It's the perfect first trek for adults - to try out those new hiking shoes and the best trek to start the kids off on a lifetime of adventure!

Trip starts from: Haridwar/Dehradun, Uttarakhand
No. of days of the trip: 4
No. of camping days: 2
No. of days of trekking: 2
Accommodation: You will stay at Bull's Retreat for the first night and then in expedition tents while camping. Mobile connection is available all through the trip.
DAY 1: ARRIVE IN HARIDWAR OR DEHRADUN AND TRAVEL TO SHIVPURI – BULL’S RETREAT
Arrive at Bull’s Retreat in time for a late lunch. This is MHE's forest lodge on the Badrinath yatra route. Later in the evening head out to the Himalayan Beach for tea and try your hands and some kayaking in the Ganga. Come back to Bull’s Retreat for evening snacks and dinner.
DAY 2: Drive to Danda Ka Nagraj | 4 - 5 Hrs
An early morning wake up call and a hike up to Ganga view point is the perfect way to start the day! The hike moves through the dense forests just at the back of Bull's Retreat  and the view of the Ganga river from high up there is a sight to behold!

Come back from the hike, freshen up and have breakfast. It's time to drive up to Danda Ka Nagraj. It's a 4 hour drive and we'll stop over at mid point for a quick snack and loo break at Banyan By The Ganges - a beautiful campsite set up by MHE's friend and avid adventurer Manishankar Ghosh. From here, it's a 2-hour drive to Danda Nagraj temple.

This stunning temple high above the village of Silsu 1480m (4,855 ft) is situated at the highest point on the hill. A 15-minute hike from the campsite and you get some beautiful and breath-taking views of the Bandarpoonch and Chaukhamba. Legend has it that when Lord Krishna came here for the first time, he came in the form of a snake and crawled all the way up the ridge to reach the spot where the temple now stands. The most stunning part of the temple are the - bells! Big ones, small ones, tiny ones, enormous ones - something you don't often get to see in mountain temples. The temple priest is a friendly soul and loves to share the story of the temple over a cup of tea.

Camp overnight at Danda Nagraj base camp (1480m) with an amazing Himalayan view right in front of you!
DAY 3: TREK DANDA KA NAGRAJ TO BYAS GHAT | 4 - 5 HRS
After breakfast we trek downhill from Danda ka Nagraj to Byas Ghat. On our way down, we will pass through many tiny Garhwal hamlets. Their homes are painted in colourful shades of blue, green and yellow and the locals are friendly souls always ready for a chat. We reach Byas Ghat at lunch time, cross over the Ganga river in rafts and camp on this secluded pristine silver-sand beach! Early evening our guides will teach you the basic principles of kayaking - as long as you don't mind getting wet in the cold river waters! As night falls, the bonfire lights up and dinner is served under the star-lit skies.

Overnight in expedition tents at Byas Ghat.
DAY 4: TREK BYAS GHAT TO MAHADEV CHATTI | 5 - 6 HRS
Early morning wake up call, breakfast and then we start off for our last hike of the trip - to Mahadev Chatti. We will be walking on the Old Badrinath Trail today - this is the route that was actually used by pilgrims in the olden days to travel to Badrinath. It's a beautiful route through forest trails and across bridges. We'll stop over for lunch at Camp Riviera - a lovely campsite by the river started by Anil Bisht, an old MHE hand and ex-colleague. After lunch, it's a 30 minute uphill hike the vehicles waiting for you at the road head. Rest a bit while we take a 45 minute drive straight to Bulls Retreat.

Freshen up and then it's departure time - the city lights are calling!

Note: You could opt to stay over at Bull's Retreat on this night. Supplement charges will apply.
